A master bath with a tropical feel from a home built by Witt Construction at Old Stone Ridge in Greenfield Center is featured in the August 2010 issue of Better Homes & Gardens Kitchen and Bath Ideas.

The homeowners, Aaron and Sandi AuBuchon, were seeking a tropical retreat from New York’s cold winters. Taking design inspiration from the couple’s favorite Cancun resort, builder John Witt and designer Joel Jackoski created a master bath that is an oasis with a spa-like atmosphere.

The bath features an 8×4-foot steam shower with large brown travertine tiles that line the floor, ceiling and walls, accented in the interior by narrow bands of small mosaic tiles. A tall glass-panel insert allows light in from a nearby window. “It makes the bathroom feel larger. You don’t feel like you are tucked in a corner when you’re showering,” Witt says in the article. Dark maple cabinetry with dual vanities separated by an elevated storage cabinet with a reeded-glass insert face the shower. Kitchen designer Joel Jackoski of Kitchen Dimensions in Saratoga Springs notes: “We wanted to break the monotony of a solid-stone countertop, make the vanity more contemporary, and give it more dimension.”
