A wooded landscape minutes from Saratoga Springs makes for a welcoming home.
Not too far from the city of Saratoga Springs—just about four miles—is an 80-acre wooded site that has the feel of an ancient landscape. The site features lots of trees, stone walls, and off to the east there are big views of the city and hilly Vermont.
The houses are just beginning to grow in this enchanted forest, and one of the first is a contemporary cottage. Designed for the way its owners want to live, the house has wide open spaces that invite the outside in, but it has enough privacy and coziness to make the home feel like a just-discovered clearing in the woods.

A large screen porch invites the outside-in.
On the exterior, John Witt of Witt Construction designed this commission to blend into the naturalistic landscape. On the inside, the semi-split level home mimics the continuity of nature, with spaces that are discrete but that seamlessly fade into one another. Altogether, the home is modern in its function but timeless in its tone with lots of wood throughout, a cultured stacked stone fireplace, and a master suite that is an oasis after a busy day or during a family visit.
True to the home’s setting in the wooded seclusion of Old Stone Ridge, at every turn there’s an invitation to nature —through skylights, to-the-floor windows, and a big screened porch made of cedar.
Of course, for at least three seasons of the year, this screened porch, where the outside is always inside, is the place to be. And when its old-fashioned screen door slams hello, it sounds just like home.

That is really a beautiful house and porch. I have seen a lot of beautiful screened porches and i must say this too is really beautiful. Now i am totally convinced that a there is really a huge difference to having a screened porch. It would make the porch more attractive than the ones without.
